Not Too Small to Offshore

This follows my last article on "Aligning Across Time Zones". It explained that the Philippines' time zone is inconsequential to the Frontline service. I now want to address a misconception revealed by our recent visit to the ICAEW Annual Conference in London.

“I thought we were too small to have an offshore team in the Philippines” - CFO of $250m sports media business.

I thought he was winding me up. But, it seems, CFOs view an offshore team in the Philippines as a luxury afforded to huge global corporations. Read on, and I'll explain why that's not the case!

We loved the ICAEW conference this year. So much, we've confirmed for 2025. :) It was great to meet senior ICAEW team members, like Rick Asiyani, and new Chief Customer Officer Mark Pavlides. My chat with Mark was especially interesting!

Mark let us know he had 2 wonderful experiences managing large offshore teams in The Philippines. Firstly, with William Hill (888 Group - £1.8Bn Revenue, 10,000+ Employees) and another with AIG Insurance ($45Bn Revenue, 25,000+ Employees). Mark loved working with his Philippines teams, and he knows very well, just how capable the workforce is in #Manila.

That chat with Mark and a conversation with the CFO of a $250m+ global sports media business, got me thinking about a bit of a misconception... "I thought we were too small to have an offshore team in the Philippines"

When I speak with prospects, I always say we are currently based in IBM Plaza, we're about to move next door into (one of) the Accenture buildings; down the road in BGC you see names of corporations like American Express and ING adorned across huge office buildings; these are the types of businesses that have been setting up offshore operations in Manila for decades.

I guess I can see where this misconception has come from, I’m maybe partially to blame! 😆

Accenture, IBM, and others have set up offshore centres in the Philippines for the same reasons as Frontline. They wanted access to a highly educated, motivated, and dedicated workforce where English is the business language, and 90% of education is in English.

Add to that the cost benefits, even paying Philippines staff above market rates and providing top benefits. It's clear why the Philippines is the top choice for building an offshore team or a centre of excellence rather than just outsourcing a process.

Frontline may operate in a similar field to these BPO giants. But we do not compare ourselves to them or even really aspire to be like them.

With almost 1000 staff and over 300 clients globally, we are a good-sized business with 12 years of growth and profitable trading. With 80%+ of our staff being Accountants – we know what we’re good at.

We work with Top 10 UK and Australian accountancy firms, and Top 200 sized firms in the USA. We also help small firms and sole practitioners in regional areas that struggle to recruit or retain talent. We level the playing field.

We work with large mining corporations and restaurant chains, but we also work with small childcare providers and IT support firms.

For over a decade, we have been the Prometheus of global finance. We "took the fire of the gods" and let businesses of all sizes benefit from the Global Business Process Outsourcer model. (Too much? 😉)

We have simplified BPO. Now, accounting practices, mid-market CFOs, and SME FD's can build their own offshore back-office teams for Accounts, Finance, IT, Marketing, and Admin. They can start with just 1 full-time employee!

We are your offshore partner. We are the legal employer of the staff. We provide full HR and operations support, including a great place to work! Our IT team works hand in hand with yours to ensure a work setup that fully complies with your needs. – We provide everything your staff needs to work solely for you and your business.

So, whether you are a small firm looking to support your onshore team with Compliance and Bookkeeping help, a mid-sized firm looking for 10 Audit staff or you are an international business looking for 20 Accounts payable clerks; Frontline makes starting and scaling an offshore team accessible to businesses of all sizes.

If you are ready to get started building your offshore team, get in touch here and I will be more than happy to walk you through the Frontline service.
