With digital transformation instigating so much changes, organizations must keep up by being relentless in maintaining the quality of processes and services—or better yet, improving them.
Of course, the most important resource—the workforce—must do the same.
Staying relevant and competitive means being a lifelong learning, which is why upskilling has become more crucial than ever.
But where to begin? Luckily, there's a plethora of ways to upskill.
Whether you're looking to brush up on technical skills or delve into something new, here’s how:
Maximize free trial periods – Many online learning platforms like LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, and Udemy, have a monthly subscription model for their premium services. Admittedly, access to exclusive content and certifications are good perks, but I suggest exploring what they offer through the free trials they offer first. Actively assess the quality of the content. Do they align with your learning goals?
Take advantage of free online courses – Yes, completely free! Leading universities like MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Harvard University, Stanford University, and Yale University among others provide access to high-quality courses created by experts from their institutions. On top of the typical video lectures, they often offer quizzes and assignments to help reinforce learning too.
Watch Youtube videos – YouTube isn’t just a treasure trove for entertainment; it’s also rich in educational content for self-directed learning on practically any subject under the sun. Plus, many content creators share their expertise for free! Just make sure to find channels that are trustworthy.
Listen to podcasts – This is one of the most convenient and accessible ways to consume educational content. It’s all a matter of subscribing to channels on platforms like Spotify that align with your interests and goals. Then, whether you're commuting to work, exercising at the gym, or doing household chores, you can easily listen to your downloaded episodes!
Explore online communities and forums – Online communities and forums allow you to connect with like-minded people and reach out to those outside your network. So go through platforms like Reddit, Quora, and Discord where people host discussions and threads on a wide range of topics. There, you can follow or join whatever aligns with your interests so you can tap into the collective wisdom of the community and engage by leaving comments and asking questions.
Attend events – Learning isn’t restricted to computers can provide of course. Long before all the fancy technology was born, many organizations hosted conventions where there’s usually numerous seminars and talks on topics ranging from general professional development to industry-specific trends. Keep an eye out for them! By participating, you can gain valuable insights from experts and hear their firsthand experiences while also expanding your network with other professionals.
Stay curious and consistent! Cultivate a mindset that’s constantly hungry for having questions answered, gaining new experiences, and understanding diverse perspectives.
Of course, always look for opportunities to apply your newly acquired knowledge skills too because that’s when learning is most effective. Make learning a habit by dedicating time each day or week—whatever floats your boat!
It’s been inspiring for me to see how committed my colleagues are to their development. If you embrace the challenges and commit to continuous improvement, who knows? You might inspire someone too!
Wouldn’t that be such a great achievement? 😉 Recruitment Team
